# 爪は硬すぎても良くない（overly hard nails are not ideal）

### 爪は硬ければ硬いほど良い、というわけではない。

爪は硬ければ硬いほど良い、と思われがちですが、そうではありません。硬さとやわらかさのバランスこそが、健やかで強い爪をつくります。

爪は肌と同じ[ケラチンと](/docs/definition-of-words/nono/kerachinkeratin.md)いうタンパク質でできていますが、水分量によってその状態は大きく変わります。うるおいが不足すると、爪は硬くなる一方で、しなやかさ（柔軟性）を失っていきます。

たとえるなら、乾いた木の枝のようなものです。乾燥した枝は硬く感じますが、力を加えても「しなる」ことができず、ある日突然パキッと折れてしまいます。反対に、適度な水分を含んだ枝は、多少の衝撃を受けてもしなやかに曲がり、簡単には折れません。

爪も同じで、硬いだけの爪は衝撃を「逃がす」ことができず、欠けたり割れたりしやすくなります。健康な爪に必要なのは、硬さと柔軟性がバランスした「しなやかさ」であり、これは適切な保湿によってのみ生まれます。

KOH・Heromeが「ネイルハードナー（爪を硬くするアイテム）」と「ネイルオイル（爪を保湿するアイテム）」の両方を提案しているのは、このためです。硬さだけを追求するのではなく、うるおいによるしなやかさを土台に、必要に応じて硬さを補うという考え方が、「爪のスキンケア」の基本です。
